When you hear the phrase self-care, what comes to mind? For many of us, it’s bubble baths, journaling, or trying to squeeze in a yoga class after a long day. All of these can be wonderfully supportive practices, but there’s one that often gets overlooked: Healthy eating as self-care.
If you’re feeling burnt out, busy, or simply doing your best to keep all the plates spinning, food can easily become something you rush through or forget altogether. You grab whatever’s quick, skip meals, or fall into the habit of fuelling yourself with caffeine and sugar just to make it through the day. And there’s no shame in that – we’ve all been there.
But here’s a gentle reminder: feeding yourself well is not a luxury. It’s a lifeline.
Food can be one of one of the simplest, most meaningful ways you take care of yourself. Not in a restrictive or rule-heavy way, but in a loving, intentional one.
Choosing colourful, vibrant, plant-based meals isn’t about being perfect. It’s about saying: my body matters, my energy matters, and I deserve to feel good.
When you eat with love and intention, you're telling yourself:
I am worthy of nourishment.
I want to feel better.
I care enough to take this one small step.
It might not feel like much at first, but over time, those small steps add up. And they send a powerful message to your body and mind: you matter.
You might be surprised at how deeply food affects your mood, energy, and ability to cope with stress.
Eating a variety of whole, plant-based foods supports your nervous system, improves digestion, balances blood sugar, and feeds the beneficial bacteria in your gut – all of which are essential when you're feeling stretched thin.
When your body gets what it needs, everything else starts to feel a little more manageable. You think more clearly. Your energy feels steadier. You feel more you.
That’s what healthy eating as self-care really comes down to: choosing to support yourself in the most foundational way possible.
If you feel drawn to eating more plants but aren’t sure where to begin, I invite you to join me for The 100 Plants Experiment – a gentle, supportive way to reconnect with your body and nourish yourself from the inside out.
Over the course of 5 days we'll explore what it means to feed yourself well – with colour, variety, flavour and love. You’ll be encouraged to eat 100 different plant foods (yes, it’s possible!) including fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, pulses and more.
There are no strict rules, no pressure, and no "good or bad" foods. Just real, vibrant nourishment that helps you feel more energised, resilient, and grounded.
Because taking care of yourself doesn’t have to mean overhauling your entire life. Sometimes, it starts with your next meal.
If you're ready for a reset that feels kind and doable, The 100 Plants Experiment could be just what you need. It’s a fun way to make healthy eating a regular act of self-care – not as another item on your to-do list, but as a gift to yourself.
Your body is always listening.
What might shift if you began to nourish it with intention and love?
