Some Patterns Start with a Sketch...
Some Start with Stress Knitting...
I never really set out to become a knitting pattern designer.
In fact, I mostly started designing because I can’t seem to follow someone else’s pattern without wanting to tweak it, change it, or see where a different idea might lead.
Sometimes I cast on with a clear plan. Other times I just need yarn in my hands after a long day and a new project slowly takes shape from there.
Because the reality is - life can feel a lot sometimes.
Alongside a busy career and all the usual demands of everyday life, knitting has become my way to slow down, switch off, and find small pockets of calm amongst the chaos. Not in a picture-perfect way. In a real-life way.
My knitting style changes depending on what I need from it.
Some days that means simple, squishy garter stitch when my brain is too tired for anything complicated. Other days I want to disappear into lace, cables, colourwork, or long rhythmic rows of stitches that help everything else fade into the background for a while.
You’ll find a mixture of both here.
I love projects that feel soothing to knit, but I also know the joy that comes from finishing something exciting and wearable, so you’ll find patterns ranging from relaxing slower knits to quicker projects too.
One thing you probably won’t find much of is seaming. I’m not a fan. It stresses me out slightly and defeats the whole purpose of knitting for me, so most of my designs are worked seamlessly where possible.
I’m also not a prolific pattern designer. Some patterns take months, sometimes years, to evolve from the first spark of an idea to a finished design.
But every single one has been created slowly, thoughtfully, and with genuine love for the process.
Whatever you need from your knitting right now - distraction, creativity, challenge, calm, comfort, or simply something beautiful to make - I invite you to explore and find a project that feels right for you.
With love,
Clare 💖
